Dogtown
"Dogtown" refers to the broken down neighborhood around the P.O.P. (Pacific Ocean Pier) in Santa Monica, California that was home to the legendary z-boys. With the advent of pool riding in the 70's, the mass produced toy-shop skateboards just weren't cutting it anymore. Out of the necessity for a decent board, Wes Humpston started custom shaping wider boards out of his garage. The hand drawn graphics, inspired by local graffiti, would become the first radical skateboard graphics ever. In the late 70's, Wes teamed up with Jim Muir to officially form Dogtown Skates. Today Wes is still making boards and bad ass graphics as Bulldog Skates.
